La Tonada del Cabrestero music video
Salvaging less-than-ideal footage
Larry & Joe were about to call it quits on releasing a music video for La Tonada del Cabrestero—at least, anytime soon. They’d been through multiple rounds of edits with freelance editors and still couldn’t get a decent video out of the footage their crew had shot. They reached out to me (a friend) for a final attempt at the edit.
FOOTAGE CHALLENGES:
The video had been shot using three different cameras, all set to disparate color profiles. (One S-Log, one set to neutral, and another default/standard)
Several shots contained shaky repositioning during crucial performance moments
many shots were out of focus
Audio levels followed suit with the same level of inconsistency
With my color correcting/grading skills in DaVinci Resolve, a little creativity, and a whole lot of stabilization and frame blending, I spared them a costly reshoot. Leaning into the video’s mistakes with a 90’s grunge-inspired treatment also helped revive this seemingly DOA footage.
